“Lynn Kachmarik braved the cold winds to make her way to our campus for a whirlwind day. Our student athletes — and especially our coaches — are the better for it. With her own spectacular athletic career in water polo plus a commendable career in intercollegiate athletics administration, she has trained her eye on educating athletes and coaches about effective leadership. So often we equate top athletes as leaders and role models. Lynn reminds us that it’s not always natural to be an effective leader. Coaches have the privilege of shaping young lives, not just in the course of competition. On the flip side, that privilege carries great responsibility. Emerging adults should demand effective leadership from coaches — not just to win, but to embrace the moral implications of what participating in sports entails.”
